“Tonikaku Akarui Yasumura” is 41 years old, born in 1982. He is from Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, and was a member of the baseball club in high school. He also played in the Koshien tournament. He formed a comedy duo “Armstrong” in 2000 and performed until they disbanded in 2014. After that, he became a solo comedian and became popular with his signature phrase “Don’t worry, I’m wearing” and his naked pose that looks like he is naked. In 2015, he made it to the finals of the “R-1 Grand Prix” and was selected as one of the top 10 words of the year.

He participated in the popular British audition show “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2023. This show is a competition where people with various talents such as singers and dancers are judged by judges and viewers’ votes. In the past, some world-famous stars such as Paul Potts and Susan Boyle were born from this show. Yasumura appeared under the name “TONIKAKU” and was called “Tony” by the host.

Yasumura performed his classic gag of hiding his crotch with a swimsuit and saying “Don’t worry, I’m wearing” in the preliminary round. This gag was a big hit with the judges and audience, and he advanced to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, he showed off a series of gags related to British culture. He amused the audience with poses based on afternoon tea, guardsmen, cricket, etc. At the end, he finished with poses inspired by the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” jacket photo and F1 racer’s pit stop.

Yasumura finished third in the semi-finals and missed the final round, but he made a miraculous comeback with the “wild card” slot that allowed one group that impressed the judges or was popular with the viewers to advance. In the final, he dressed up as a superhero and showed poses of Spider-Man, Superman, etc. Finally, he impersonated Freddie Mercury, the vocalist of QUEEN, and danced with a large number of dancers while saying “Don’t Worry I’m wearing”. This performance was also featured on QUEEN’s official Twitter.

Yasumura did not win the final, but he became the first Japanese finalist ever. He posted a message of gratitude on his Instagram saying, “The Britain’s Got Talent final is over! I didn’t win, but it was awesome! Thank you everyone for your support!”

Yasumura made many people laugh and moved them with his performance in Britain. He is not only “very bright”, but also “very amazing” comedian. I look forward to his future activities.
